SUMMARY:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring products, processes, controls, and quality management system effectively meet quality goals and conform to ISO 9001 standards. They will lead continuous improvement initiatives, identify non-conformances, implement corrective actions, and track and report on key performance indices. This position is essential to maintaining adherence to quality standards, and to facilitating data-based decision making to maximize efficiency, performance, and reliability throughout a laser manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Oversee the Quality Management System to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
· Plan and execute testing and inspection of products to verify conformance with performance specifications and regulatory requirements.
· Develop Preventative Maintenance program to maximize equipment reliability and up-time.
· Identifies non-conformances, performs root cause analysis, and leads corrective action plans.
· Coordinate failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), develops and maintains control plans, work instructions, and monitors process performance to ensure consistency and reliability.
· Monitor, analyze, and report organizational KPIs.
· Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure consistent adherence to quality standards and develop risk mitigation strategies.
· Perform thorough internal and external audits to verify compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable regulatory requirements.
· Ensure all suppliers consistently meet or exceed established quality standards.
· Coordinate training initiatives for production and quality teams to promote the adoption and ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.
· Support Engineering and Operations resolve manufacturing issues and process inefficiencies.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
· B.S. in engineering or related field, and four years relevant experience; or
M.S. in engineering or related field, and three years relevant experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Four years of experience working in a quality engineer or equivalent position for optics, photonics, electronics, scientific instruments, or similar industry.
· Proven ability in developing and executing quality management systems
· Ability to gather, interpret, and perform statistical analysis on technical data
· Attention to detail and commitment to quality
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Proficient with Microsoft Office
· Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards
DESIRED SKILLS:
· Experience developing, testing, or analyzing lasers, optics, photonics, or optical instruments
· Proficient with SolidWorks; ability to read and interpret technical drawings
· Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as JMP, and/or Python
· Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and six-sigma tools, e.g. Gage R&R and DMAIC
· Six-sigma green belt certification
LANGUAGE:
· Must read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in the English language.
· Will sometimes write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
· Must effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, other employees, and customers.
