A leading manufacturing company of Aerospace ground support equipment and flight hardware. As the Machine Shop Manager, you will be responsible for managing and directing the daily operations of a team of machinists, planners, programmers, buyers and support staff engaged in performing all work or activities related to manufacturing complex machined parts, assemblies and flight hardware.
What you’ll be doing:
- Reviewing new orders to develop a Manufacturing Plan.
- Identifying resource requirements and managing responsibilities to successfully satisfy production needs.
- Routinely reviews Manufacturing Progress for cost and schedule adequacy and implements process changes as needed.
- Providing direction to support functions for Material Procurement, Electronic Modelling, Programming, and Specific Work Instructions.
- Maintaining and updating a schedule of all open orders.
- Participating in weekly completed Job Cost Review meeting to provide any needed explanation and recommended improvements.
- Coordinating with Inspection departments for priorities to maintain efficient production.
- Creating and documenting Root Cause and Corrective Actions for any escapes.
- Ensuring that all contractual requirements and deliveries are achieved.
- Transitioning work requirements between shifts where necessary and appropriate.
- Implementing disciplinary and technical coordination of all machine shop employees with a “team building focus”.
- Monitoring and prioritizing the kitting of new jobs prior to releasing to production.
Key Areas / Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with internal departments to expedite the flow of material and product throughout all phases of production.
- Provide accurate status for all “M” (Machining) and “S” (Sheet Metal) jobs in weekly production meeting.
- May expedite material through the shop as well as outside services.
- Distributes work orders to departments, denoting number, type, and proposed completion date of units to be produced.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent work experience such as vocational training and 10 + years’ experience in a metal contract manufacturing environment
- Experience in precision machining and sheet metal work for large products
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate as a member or leader with suppliers, customers, and governmental oversight organizations.
- Ability to lead by influencing, negotiating, and delegating.
- Experience working in an AS9100 regulated environment.
- Knowledge of Geometric Tolerances, (ANSI-Y 14.5) drawing interpretation and shop math
