Overview: Kelly Science and Clinical is eager to be hiring for a Chemist 3 for our premier client in Portland, OR. This is a direct hire opportunity.
The Chemist 3 performs an essential role by providing analytical services and results accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner to clients through analyzing samples using conventional and new technologies. The Chemist 3 is responsible for implementing improvements, stabilizing analytical processes, leading innovation, and mentoring and guiding other Chemists to achieve the company’s mission and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Performs sample analysis per documented methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Using instruments such as MS, MSMS, HR-MSMS Orbitrap detectors.
- Entering data into the LIMS for the tests performed and is responsible for the results.
- Independently performing simple and complex (multi-screen test methods) analysis for routine and non-routine samples and complex matrix types.
- Performs responsibilities and duties of junior chemist, including extractions, as needed, and directed by Group Lead.
- Troubleshoots issues with analytical procedures and coordinates with Group Lead on resolutions.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance, verification, and calibration of analytical instrumentation.
- Contacts vendors and keeps Group Leader informed when external repair is needed on instrumentation.
- Develops and updates documents and SOPs, ensuring that current versions are up to date and are available to other Chemists.
- Performs review on data packages submitted by other Chemists for quality, accuracy, consistency, and completeness and ensures proper procedures are followed for ISO 17025 compliance.
- Leads FDA studies and other client specific analytical projects.
- Leads R&D projects. Independently investigates, develops, and establishes improved or new extraction and analysis methodologies to meet laboratory and client needs.
- Contributes to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations
- Obtains and retains an up-to-date knowledge of analytical techniques, equipment, and technologies. Participates in internal and external training.
- Acts as technical resource for sales and client inquiries.
- Assists the Group Lead, as needed with departmental budget, new investment, personnel planning, and workload coordination, following the Group Leader’s direction.
- Trains and mentors Chemists within department and is a resource to other Chemists as needed or directed.
- Supports junior Chemist roles and directs tasks. Acts as back-up for Group Leader in their absence.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or related science
- 5 years of directly applicable experience
- Experience in working independently, and thorough understanding of instruments such as MS, MSMS, and HR-MSMS Orbitrap detectors.
