The Converting Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the converting operations within our tissue paper manufacturing facility. This role ensures that production targets are met efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tissue paper converting operations, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day converting operations, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Fully involved in the operational setup and implementation of a new converting facility in Duluth, with a focus solely on operations (not project management).
- Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, waste reduction, and machine efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Lead, train, and develop the converting team to achieve operational excellence and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage staffing levels to ensure adequate support for production, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and identify opportunities for employee development.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize production, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, engineering, and quality control, to drive operational efficiency.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to streamline processes and improve production output.
- Ensure that all converting operations meet the company's quality standards and customer specifications.
- Work closely with the quality assurance team to identify and address any quality issues promptly.
- Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent quality throughout production.
- Manage the converting department’s budget, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
- Track and analyze production costs to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and that any necessary repairs are conducted promptly to avoid production downtime.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the converting department.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure that corrective actions are implemented when necessary.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in tissue paper converting operations or a related manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in managing teams and production lines in a high-volume manufacturing facility.
- Strong knowledge of converting equipment and processes specific to tissue paper manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a focus on results.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with manufacturing software systems (e.g., SAP or other ERP systems).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
