Technical Support Specialist (Energy Management Systems)

Brooksource is looking to bring on a Technical Support Specialist for one of our largest clients in the energy sector. This role supports 24x7x365 frontline diagnostics, application monitoring, and direct communication between customers, support staff, and management to ensure continuous health and availability of key energy management systems.
This position is critical for maintaining operational health and compliance within energy management systems. The Technical Support Specialist monitors primary SCADA and ancillary systems, provides first-line support, and coordinates closely with EMS Department and other personnel. The role requires an understanding of both technical support and regulatory compliance and demands flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work with coordinators, control center personnel, and management in team-oriented, high-stress situations.
- Demonstrated capability to provide excellent customer support.
- Knowledge of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Sarbanes-Oxley, and other federal regulations.
- Preferred experience with Windows-based and UNIX (AIX) operating systems.
- Knowledge of distributed computer networks is a plus.
- Experience with Change Management processes and knowledge-based procedures; ability to prioritize tasks affecting Bulk Power Systems.
Other Requirements:
- Must sign and adhere to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Standard of Conduct and Separation Protocol.
- Must pass enhanced screening (background, drug, and psychological assessment).
- Willingness to be sequestered as essential personnel during severe weather.
- Must work 8- or 12-hour rotating shifts, including day and night shifts.
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Continuous monitoring of SCADA and related systems for health and operational availability.
- Initial troubleshooting and coordination with EMS and other personnel to resolve issues.
- Customer notifications and coordination of system outages or events impacting critical systems.
- Tracking and documenting all case resolutions thoroughly.
- Supporting Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery systems.
- Compliance with all Electronic and Physical access policies.
