7A Outpatient Transfusion Department-
This is a PRN position that requires full availability. Will need to be available one day in advance to work if a nurse is out ill. Can not be an additional or secondary position. Main duties include scheduling/checking patients in for appointments, accessing port or placing IV, drawing ordered labs, administering blood products based on those lab results. Vital signs and assessment before, during, and after transfusions. Removing IV, de-accessing port, and giving discharge instructions. Can be fast paced so must be current with acute care or infusion center.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
- Physical requirements/demands:
- Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift
- Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
Unit Information:
7A We offer a vast array of experiences and opportunities surrounding the care of hematology and oncology patients. We treat patients in all steps of their journey. This includes workup and initial diagnosis, middle of their treatment process, and end of life care as well. We administer chemotherapy almost daily and becoming certified is a requirement. Our patients also receive radiation, surgical interventions, and transfusions. They require med-surg skills such as wound care, drain care, tube feeding, and pain management. Our unit includes remote telemetry monitoring for up to 13 rooms. We provide end of life care including pain and secretion management. We work closely with the Hospice team to meet the needs of our patients as well as their loved ones.
