Building on the success of the original West Hollywood location, San Vicente Clubs are expanding into Santa Monica and the West Village in New York City in 2024.
Job Summary
We are looking for a candidate with experience in hospitality finance to oversee the finance operations at our NY location. The Controller is responsible for safeguarding the club and hotel’s assets and financial resources to ensure that all are utilized to maximize hotel profitability. Provide timely and accurate financial information and counsel to hotel senior management and ensure that the hotel operates within all related local and corporate policies and procedures and under the terms specified by ownership
Essential Functions
- The ability to ensure the monitoring, controlling and recording of all sales, purchases, salaries and expenses of the club and hotel.
- The ability to ensure the preparation of a comprehensive monthly report of the entire financial results of the hotel in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- The ability to prepare forecasts and budgets as required and to report any deviation of over expenditure, under budgeting or non-compliance to the approved budget to the owner.
- The ability to assign and delegate responsibility and authority to the accounting staff and other supervisors who assist the Controller with the financial administration of the club and hotel.
- The ability to assist the owner in establishing policies, rules, internal controls and safeguards that ensure profitability and control of operations and to report any deviations to the owner.
- The ability to provide treasurer functions to the club and hotel with regard to cash planning and review the cash position on a daily basis in order to optimize the use of funds.
- The ability to review the status of Accounts Receivable aging and monitor billing and collections to ensure achieving standards.
- The ability to ensure that all local, state, and federal taxes are deposited timely and all related reports are filed on a timely basis.
- The ability to maintain files on all contracts, leases and agreements and ensure compliance with their requirements.
- The ability to take appropriate personnel related action including hiring, training, commending, disciplining, evaluating, etc.
- The ability to evaluate the performance of Accounting personnel with a view towards development and an emphasis on those individuals qualifying for future advancement.
- The ability to maintain close liaisons with the club and hotel's external and internal auditors and ensure effective action as necessary on all their agreed upon recommendations.
- The ability to conduct self in a professional manner at all times to reflect the high standards of club and hotel and encourage staff to do the same.
- The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
- The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Must have thorough knowledge of general accounting and financial reporting standards, financial aptitude, and number crunching skills.
- Must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate to advance knowledge of Excel; JONAS software, Great Plains highly preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate to management, co-workers, and subordinates with the English language, inclusive of reading, writing, and speaking.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational, and analytical skills.
- Must be able to sustain composure, remain calm, and possess a positive attitude.
- Must be able to focus and act with great detail, speed and accuracy.
- Must be a team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Must be able to exercise confidentiality and discretion.
Qualifications
- B.S. or B.A. in Accounting or related Business field from an accredited university.
- General understanding of GAAP principles and requirements.
- Proficient with Great Plains accounting software.
- Proficient with JONAS Accounting systems.
- Minimum 4 years of business related experience as Assistant Controller / Staff Accountant or higher; hospitality industry preferred.
