Job Summary
The Superintendent plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects by providing on-site coordination for all project phases. This includes overseeing subcontractors, materials, and equipment, ensuring strict adherence to project specifications, maintaining schedule adherence, and prioritizing project site safety. With a primary focus on planning, execution, and quantity tracking, the Superintendent manages and optimizes field operations within their scope. This role involves daily interaction with on-site personnel, contractors, consultants, and vendors to achieve project goals and uphold quality standards.
Job Responsibilities
Planning and Execution
- Review work plans, means and methods, schedules, safety measures, environmental measures, quality control measures, and coordination of trades and equipment.
- Conduct daily site walks to verify installation status and ensure EPC Contractor compliance with established procedures, standards, and specifications.
Permit Compliance
- Examine required construction/building permit inspections and ensure proper permit closeout documentation.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure environmental compliance requirements are being effectively met.
- Oversee receiving permanent material and equipment deliveries, ensuring proper guidelines for handling, staging, and storage are followed.
Quality Control
- Participate in Quality Tours, Punchlist, Mechanical, and Substantial Completion walk-downs with EPC to ensure quality product delivery.
- Add-Discover repeated inspection failures and discuss with the project team if an NCR should be issued.
- Understand the Inspection and Test Plan for the task operation, including hold points and requirements to notify QCIs/Field personnel.
Project Oversight and Problem Solving
- Conduct periodic verifications, examinations, and surveillance of all the necessary phases of the Care and Maintenance program.
- Participate in and review root cause analysis as required to ensure corrective/preventative actions are generated and implemented.
- Think creatively and provide strategic ideas and solutions regarding field operations.
- Recognize and mitigate risks in contracts, technical specs, and operations.
- Act as the Company's project site representative, maintaining positive interactions with project stakeholders, including clients, utility representatives, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), and community members. Uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and a respectful demeanor.
Communication, Coordination, and Reporting
- Communicate schedule progress during daily scheduled meetings.
- Inform the Construction Manager if the schedule is ahead or falling behind the plan.
- Ensure proper inter-discipline coordination for your operations.
- Gather and report installed quantities daily to the EPS tracking Workbook.
- Report any roadblocks or anticipated field issues to the Construction Manager.
- Lead Punchlist efforts during the turnover process.
- Complete daily field reports with highly descriptive narratives of the project process and discussions with craft, inspectors, and other representatives.
- Act as the first line of defense in meeting critical path schedules.
- Coordinate with other team members to use the most productive resource on a daily basis (time management).
Training and Development
- Develop your knowledge and skills as a builder.
- Be proactive in your training to better train and develop others.
- Incorporates and coordinates knowledge across all segments, areas, or disciplines and can bring others up to speed.
- Contribute to Operation Reviews, Operation Observations, Operation Shutdowns, and Time Analysis as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience
- High school diploma; some college coursework.
- College degree or a minimum three years’ experience as a Construction Superintendent
- Solar PV, BESS, or wind power project experience, preferred
- Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time
- Advanced proficiency in MS Projects, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe
- Record keeping – Excellent skills in documenting meetings, decisions, site conditions, and change order defense
- Safety trained for field work – OSHA 10
