Director of Data Engineering & AI
We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Engineering & AI to lead and scale our data engineering team, driving data-driven products and AI initiatives. Reporting to the CPTO, you will balance hands-on execution with strategic leadership, ensuring our data infrastructure supports critical applications, advanced analytics, and AI insights.
This role works closely with the CTO, Director of Software Engineering, and Product Management to align data solutions with business objectives.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in the Microsoft stack, with hands-on experience in SQL Server and Azure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hands-On Contribution (25%): Work on key tasks such as data pipelines, database optimization, and troubleshooting complex issues. Serve as a technical resource to resolve critical challenges.
- System Design & Guidance (50%): Lead architecture and design of data systems, including pipelines, warehouse solutions, and reporting. Provide direction on best practices and partner with the CTO on AI initiatives.
- Team & Project Management (25%): Manage a team of senior engineers, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, fostering accountability, and driving high-quality results. Oversee collaboration across domestic and offshore teams.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years in data engineering, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in data warehouse architecture, pipeline design, and BI/reporting solutions.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure, including cloud migration, scalability, and security.
- Proven experience with SQL Server, SSRS/SSIS, Power BI, and large-scale data architecture (OLAP cubes).
- Hands-on experience with data processing (ETL/ELT) and automation workflows.
- Experience leading distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AI/ML integration experience and familiarity with large-scale data environments.
- Experience with claims data or similar domains.
