Our client, a large, privately held industry leader in the Greater Grand Rapids area, specializes in manufacturing residential and commercial products. They are seeking a skilled Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join their team and make an immediate impact. This role is critical to driving operational excellence through process improvements and factory automation initiatives.
As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in lean manufacturing to optimize production flow, complete value stream mapping, and identify 5S opportunities. You will be responsible for reducing setup and changeover times, enhancing material pull systems, and managing capital projects to implement automation and improve processes. Additionally, you will analyze equipment downtime to increase reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and create or refine manufacturing documentation, including operator instructions and standard work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles.
- Conduct value stream mapping, identify 5S opportunities, and optimize production flows.
- Reduce setup and changeover times to improve efficiency.
- Manage capital expenditure projects focused on process improvements and automation.
- Analyze equipment downtime and implement solutions to enhance reliability and reduce costs.
- Develop and update manufacturing documentation, including operator instructions and standard work procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing/process engineering, with a focus on automation, ergonomic optimization, and continuous improvement.
- Experience in high-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments preferred.
- CAPEX project management experience is a plus.
- Proven project leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor team members.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability, and trust.
