Position: Bankruptcy Paralegal
Position Overview:
Our client is a law firm seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Paralegal with a minimum of 5 years experience. The Bankruptcy Paralegal will assist our attorney team members by providing bankruptcy litigation and transactional support services including document and claim preparation and review; communications with court staff and clients; market research, investigation, and fact checking; preparation and support for contested hearings and closing of bankruptcy and restructuring related transactions.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation of all elements of evolving bankruptcy case and knowledge management systems, including file management (electronic and hard copy), case calendaring, task lists and bankruptcy-related deadlines.
- Meet and confer with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss cases, projects, and ongoing client development initiatives.
- Draft legal documents including routine retention and fee applications; draft orders; prepare exhibits; file motions and pleadings in accordance with judicial procedures.
- Prepare and file proofs of claim and assist with the claim’s reconciliation process.
- Research and analyze case management procedures, local court rules and statutes for compliance.
- Review and monitor case dockets to identify, summarize, and circulate relevant pleadings and applications.
- Manage hearing preparation and support, including scheduling of telephonic appearances and preparation of hearing binders.
- Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case information, which may include depositions, pleadings, exhibits and other items.
- Assist attorneys with hearing and trial preparation.
- Develop and maintain time records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
- Actively participate in weekly team meetings
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years experience as a Bankruptcy Paralegal at a Law Firm.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of electronic filing through CM/ECF filing system in all bankruptcy courts.
• Familiarity with fundamental basic bankruptcy concepts and court pleadings.
• Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
