The Litigation Attorney II is responsible for all aspects of case management. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of medicine, law and issues related to medical malpractice litigation and the skill to develop effective case strategy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with trial and arbitration attorney and actively participate in:
- Formulating discovery and investigation strategy
- Obtaining concurrence with claims specialist on defense preparation and ensuring cost effective completion
- Preparing pleadings
- Preparing and responding to discovery
- Attending court appearances
- Preparing lawsuits for trial/arbitration
- Preparing motions as requested
- Respond to “hotline” inquiries from the Claims Department
- Prepare timely reports to claims at all stages of litigation
- Comply with the Defense Attorney Guidelines
- Represent Member physicians at deposition in “Depo-only” cases
- Perform other duties as necessary
Education and/or Experience:
- J.D. Degree
- Minimum 4 years medical malpractice litigation experience
- Trial/Arbitration experience
Other Skills and Abilities:
- License to practice law in California
- Knowledge of medical issues
- Ability to assume support role for trial attorneys and to assist as second chair in trial and arbitrations.
