Laboratory Technician 3
Duration: 12 months, Contract
Pay Range: $22-24 hourly
Overview
Performs laboratory work and process development of a routine nature requiring application of general and specialized chemistry and engineering methods, techniques and use of instruments including clinical chemistry analyzers.
Key Accountabilities:
- Performs a variety of laboratory testing procedures and experiments under the direction of scientists and a laboratory coordinator.
- Prepares contrived blood samples using spiking methodologies and tonometry.
- Periodically communicates results, problems, and progress to scientists and supervisor.
- Carries out team assignments based on priorities; Detects problems in routine procedures caused by instrument difficulties, or in sample preparation and/or handling.
- Understands and uses correct operating procedures and techniques for using required laboratory instruments, making solution preps, and for sample handling.
- Obtains data, collates results and prepares reports as required; maintains accurate, detailed, and legible laboratory notebooks.
- May perform, as professional judgment and experience are developed, an expanded range of laboratory experiments, tests, and procedures.
- Assignments may be specific, and with limited objectives that involve a number of tasks.
- Understands experimental design; Familiar with theory and practice sufficient to detect deviations in results and/or potential problems. Grasp of basic statistics.
- As experience is gained will select appropriate experimental and analytical methods, define protocols, and schedule tasks.
- Acquires information from scientific literature, vendors, or other groups as required; May recommend improvements in routine analytical methods.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Capabilities:
- Able to use and apply basic chemistry and engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline in a chemistry, or biomedical engineering related discipline, with minimum 1 year professional experience.
