Job Posting: Fiber Optics Network Engineer
Location: Arlington, VA 22201 (Onsite)
Contract: 18 months or until June 2026
Pay Rate: $55 - $60 per hour
Hours: Full-time, flexible between 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
About the Role
Join our Fiber Optic team, providing support to ConnectArlington under the guidance of department managers. In this role, you will work closely with Fiber and Network engineers and technical staff to interpret and create engineering drawings, manage field activities, and assist with contract management and reporting. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented professional looking to contribute to impactful projects in the Arlington area.
Responsibilities
- Draft and review project construction plans.
- Design conduit paths for both inside and outside plant facilities.
- Develop checklists to review fiber optic construction plans.
- Coordinate project activities with Network teams, property owners, County departments, and schools.
- Work closely with external entities like Dominion Virginia Power, Verizon, and Comcast.
- Track project and task status using Jira and MS Project.
- Manage records for fiber optic cable use and issuance.
- Annotate and update construction drawings and the County’s Fiber Management System.
- Complete permit applications and update SharePoint sites as needed.
- Use OTDR for troubleshooting fiber optic performance.
- Create and manage forms in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, document procedures, and handle special projects.
Basic Qualifications
- Proficiency in interpreting and drafting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), Jira, and Visio.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
- Physical requirements include walking long distances, opening handholes/manholes, and climbing ladders.
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with both inside and outside plant construction in a collaborative project environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map, or ESRI-based GIS; MS Project experience.
- Familiarity with Telcordia SR-1421 – Blue Book and BICSI RCDD certification.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Alternatively, 15 years of relevant experience beyond high school.
