Quality Assurance / Quality Control Site Coordinator
(PER DIEM IS AVAILABLE TO THOSE 50+ MILES AWAY FROM SITE)
The QA/QC Site Coordinator supports the Superintendent and Project Manager in ensuring the highest quality standards are maintained throughout all aspects of field operations. This role works closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams, as well as external suppliers of products and services, to ensure compliance with project specifications. Travel to vendor locations for inspections may be required.
Reporting Structure
The QA/QC Site Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Construction, and receives day-to-day direction from the Superintendent assigned to their specific project.
Position Overview
- Ensure quality across all activities, with a solid working knowledge of construction disciplines, including Civil, Architectural, Structural/Welding, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical, and Controls.
- Maintain QA/QC documentation, including Certificates of Conformance/Compliance, calibration records, test results, inspection requests, non-compliance reports, site instructions, Material Test Reports (MTRs), and other essential documents.
- Identify relevant standards and testing procedures, developing procedures as necessary and overseeing all testing in alignment with industry best practices.
- Review materials to confirm compliance with project specifications and quality standards; work with Project Management on material procurement.
- Implement and supervise test and inspection schedules, ensuring adherence to procedures and coordinating with various teams for quality audits.
- Guide employees on quality standards, ensuring compliance with manuals and procedures; collaborate with contractors and suppliers to maintain system quality.
- Oversee storage and preservation of materials onsite, coordinating with the Material Coordinator for preventative maintenance and establishing a PM schedule.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of project activities, analyzing processes to ensure quality standards are met.
- Perform surveillance of work methods, continuously applying and recommending improvements to quality assurance processes.
- Develop Installation Work Packages, including quality-specific risk assessments, job safety environmental analyses, and inspection plans.
- Create Inspection & Test Plan checklists in line with project specifications.
- Coordinate with the Technical Lead for managing site-generated documents, checklists, and inspection documents.
- Regularly review fieldwork against drawings, monitoring red line drawings, site instructions, and field directives.
- Coordinate with client representatives, jurisdictional authorities, third-party inspectors, and the site management team for all inspection requirements.
- Participate in Toolbox talks, communicate focus items related to Quality, and address non-conformance reports (NCRs) with corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the site team to manage and close out punch lists.
- Oversee the Transfer of Care, Custody, and Control (TCCC) of work areas to other subcontractors or the client.
- Promote and adhere to safe work practices at all times.
Qualifications
- Diploma or technical certification; a post-secondary qualification in Engineering is preferred.
- Proficient in interpreting project drawings, specifications, and codes.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of industrial project experience in a field setting.
- Self-motivated with a strong ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Procore is an asset.
- Current or previous certification for Visual Inspection of Weldments is preferred but not required (e.g., ASNT SNT-TC-1A-VT Level II, CWI, CSA W178.2 Level 1 or 2).
- Preferred certifications: CWI or CSA W178.2 Level 2.
