This highly visible executive will be responsible for overseeing UPMC’s integrated, best in class supply chain shared services. The function is recognized as a national leader with leading edge strategies and operations, advanced automation, and extensive standardization of contracts. This leader must share and continue UPMC’s commitment to supply chain innovation, creativity, and processes. The Chief Supply Chain Officer is responsible for the effective leadership and management of all commercial aspects of UPMC’s spend portfolio including effectively leading strategic sourcing and contracting. This executive must bring with them the experience, approach, and style to effectively interact with and influence a broad spectrum of hospital, health plan and physician executives. The charge of this role is to effectively lower supply and operating expenses, while increasing service levels to enhance operating effectiveness and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a best-in-class supply chain shared services capability that effectively integrates supply chain activity across UPMC, leveraging scale to maximize efficiencies of the enterprise.
- Oversee operations of all sourcing, procurement and payment, distribution, supply chain information systems and field operations capabilities. Create sustainable, best in class supply chain capabilities including sourcing, contracting, procurement, distribution, operations and value analysis.
- Serve as the face of UPMC to key supply chain partners (GPO, key suppliers, and other external partners), collaborating internally with key executives and customers to identify, pursue and structure relationships that enhance value creation capabilities.
- Collaborate with various service line value analysis teams, clinical department chairs, and key clinical leaders to develop and implement key sourcing strategies for clinical cost improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or Pharm.D. preferred.
- 15 years of progressive supply chain leadership experience within large, complex organizations.
- Strong working knowledge of finance and management information systems.
- Excellent face-to-face communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of product and service providers, as well as UPMC clinical department chairs and other physician leaders.
- A passion to mentor and manage staff at all levels including the director level.
- Strong management, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
