Role Overview:
Due to the significant growth of the firm, our needs to aggregate data across our investments strategies timely and effectively has become critical. We have a new opportunity for a Data Governance Manager to join the Finance team at H.I.G. The successful candidate will be joining a strong team where the focus will be on providing opportunities to grow, develop and be successful in your career. This role will report to the Head of Data and Performance Reporting
The candidate will play a key role in building out the data governance function for H.I.G. This will include helping to onboard new systems and data sets and to develop processes and procedures to improve the firm’s data governance and data quality. H.I.G. is currently implementing a data warehouse to help streamline our data and reporting needs. We will expect this candidate to play a critical part in the implementation and design of this platform.
The selected candidate will work with teams across the organization, including the Investment, Operations, Valuation, Tax, Investor Services, Treasury, and Capital Formation Teams, in carrying out the data governance responsibilities. This will provide the candidate with a broad range of exposure to different aspects of the business and create great networking opportunities.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist with designing and executing a data governance framework for H.I.G. This framework will drive the measurement of and improvement in data quality and data lineage activities.
- Manage all data governance activities with a view to improving the governance, quality and value of core data assets.
- Design, create & embed information governance frameworks, policies, principles & procedures with the view to formalize which systems will master which data assets.
- Assist with establishing the data governance organization structure and defining the role and responsibilities of various participants.
- Assess data quality, define data quality measures and targets and improve the overall handling of data.
- Key point of escalation for data governance and data quality issues, liaising between the business and technology to ensure that data related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and understood ensuring operational effectiveness.
- Own and manage the current Quarterly Data Collection process.
- Promote strong collaboration between business areas and IT to drive improvements in the quality and value of our core data assets.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, models, categorizations & definitions. Embed & maintain master data management.
- Maintain data governance risk and issue logs.
- Document and review data flow and delivery, prepare recommendations to streamline and standardize data integration.
- Conduct data governance tool assessments and POCs as needed, develop recommendations on appropriate implementation, configuration and use of these tools.
- Oversee delivery of data governance engagements, including adherence to standards & processes.
- Keep up to date with emerging best practice in this area and update our internal framework as appropriate.
- Lead and develop a team of internal and external Data Governance specialists to drive understanding, awareness and compliance with relevant data governance activities.
- Embed a greater awareness of the need for data quality and data ownership across business units.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required. Data Management or Finance major with a minor or focus in Data Management.
- 6-10 years of experience in financial operations, preferably at a financial institution (bank, hedge fund, private equity, administrator, custodian bank, etc.).
- Experience with data governance concepts, tools and implementation required.
- Experience across the data lifecycle, i.e., management of source data input and data quality, as well as data processing, throughput and reporting/outputs required.
- Experience with security master maintenance desired.
- Experience with private equity, private credit and real assets strongly desired.
- Knowledge of Data Platforms or Data Warehouses (e.g., Azure, Atlas, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).
- Strong Excel skills (e.g., advanced formulas and functions).
