Lab Manager / Manufacturing Supervisor

Our Client is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to lead the Lab, Extracted Products, and Production teams. This role involves overseeing daily operations, creating and adjusting production schedules, providing direction, troubleshooting mechanical issues, coaching team members, and managing personnel matters.
Additionally, this role is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in extraction, production, and packaging processes and technologies. This includes integrating new machinery and automation as the product offerings expand.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing teams in fast-paced manufacturing or production environments. They should be organized, detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and capable of maintaining high standards for product quality. The candidate should also foster a positive and collaborative team environment that supports team members' growth.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure safe, organized, and compliant production of extracted products and joints, aligning with applicable cGMPs, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Create and maintain production schedules based on sales forecasts, seasonal trends, and upcoming releases or promotions.
- Communicate schedules to Lab and Production teams, oversee progress, and serve as a point of contact for issues and escalations.
- Partner with HR to hire, train, and coach team members; issue discipline and corrective actions as necessary.
- Mentor Packaging team members, focusing on their future professional growth.
- Understand and comply with New Jersey cannabis packaging laws and regulations.
- Maintain a deep understanding of relevant extraction and packaging/labeling technologies and assess their fit in current and future processes.
- Develop and oversee quality assurance and product auditing to maintain company standards.
- Enhance lab and production operations efficiency through improvements in people, processes, and technology.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers and negotiate to secure the best deals for the company.
- Develop processes and standards for new products as the company researches and develops new product lines.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly with manufacturing, packaging, and labeling machinery.
- Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in developing, using, and fixing formulas in Excel and Google Sheets.
- College degree in a science, engineering, mathematics, or related field.
- Previous experience in cannabis extraction and production is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience managing production teams in high-volume, evolving product lines with rigorous cleanliness standards.
- Proven success in team management and creating a positive work environment with low attrition.
- Experience in researching, testing, procuring, and implementing automation technologies and training staff.
- Experience in creating and maintaining production schedules, inventory forecasts, and shift schedules for teams of 10 or more.
- Commitment to developing team members with a focus on long-term growth.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn state-specific cannabis laws and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Organized with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments, persuade through sound logic and reasoning, and understand team motivations.
- Proven conflict resolution skills and ability to manage difficult or emotional situations.
- Treats people with respect, keeps commitments, works with integrity, and upholds organizational values.
- Observes and adheres to regulatory, safety, and security procedures.
Physical, Hours, and Other Requirements:
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and lifting.
- Comfortable working on ladders and in varying temperatures as required by each product category.
- 100% On-Site.
- 45-55 hours per week.
