Feldesman Leifer LLP is a boutique law firm with offices in Washington, DC, and Sacramento, CA. We are currently seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience supporting federal district and appellate court litigation is essential. Familiarity with Administrative Procedure Act challenges, regulatory reviews, and document production in response to government investigations is a plus.
Job Description:
The Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys in all phases of federal district court and appellate litigation, as well as in responding to government investigations. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing case documents and organizing case files
- Preparing and proofreading legal documents (pleadings, motions, briefs, appendices, excerpts of record, proposed orders) in compliance with local court rules, judges’ standing orders, and the Federal Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure
- Conducting legal research and summarizing findings
- Preparing and filing court documents through the federal courts’ CM-ECF system
- Assisting attorneys in preparation for hearings and oral arguments
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Supporting challenges to federal agency actions before administrative bodies (e.g., HHS’s Departmental Appeals Board)
- Managing discovery, including reviewing and organizing documents for production
- Organizing exhibits and supplemental pleadings
- Tracking deadlines for administrative reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in federal litigation support
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, principles, and court procedures
- Experience using federal courts’ CM-ECF system
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and litigation/document management software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in litigation under the Administrative Procedure Act, 5 U.S.C. § 701-706
- Experience with investigations and agency enforcement activity
- Familiarity with e-discovery tools
- Ability to assist with PowerPoint decks and presentations for webinars, conference presentations, and business development purposes
