Bilingual Victim Advocate and Outreach Coordinator
Location: Denver (Hybrid) – Must be able to travel to Denver
Reports to: Director of Programs and Operations
Compensation: $55,000/Year
General:
The Initiative is a Denver-based, statewide victim services organization specializing in working with people with disabilities who are experiencing domestic violence, abuse, or related crimes. We are looking for a Victim Advocate and Outreach Coordinator to provide direct victim services to survivors and meet outreach-related deliverables and goals through community engagement activities.
The Victim Advocate and Outreach Coordinator provides and coordinates trauma-informed, advocacy- based victim services to survivors of domestic violence and abuse. This position is key to ensuring that The Initiative is providing high- quality, culturally appropriate services to survivors of abuse across the state of Colorado. The Victim Advocate and Outreach Coordinator will also engage in relevant outreach activities, engaging with community organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community members to spread awareness about The Initiative, facilitate collaboration and partnerships, and ensure all services provided by The Initiative are community-led.
Job Responsibilities:
Direct Service and Advocacy (25 Hours)
• Perform initial client intake and provide information on confidentiality and grievance policies, along with Victim’s Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act information
• Manage hotline: answer phone calls and text messages that are received via the hotline, listen to voicemails, and add potential new clients to the intake list
• Provide safety planning
• Provide advocacy services and problem solve with clients to help them receive the assistance they need
• Provide accompaniment to court appointments
• Provide crisis counseling and domestic violence awareness counseling
• Develop an implementation plan with clients, with all available information and resources, and help clients navigate available community resources
• Provide clients with assistance in receiving government-provided benefits
• Provide information on other services that might be available to clients such as Victim’s Compensation
• Provide information and assistance with the Address Confidentiality Program
• Provide affordable housing counseling and assistance with housing vouchers
• Provide emergency financial assistance, complying with organizational policies
• Collaborate with other organizations to provide wraparound services
• Conduct close-out surveys and follow-ups with clients
• Complete other miscellaneous tasks or objectives as requested
Community Engagement (12 Hours)
• Conduct outreach activities related to successful completion of our goals with funding agencies and organizations
• Participate in virtual briefings to help clients obtain their housing vouchers
• Co-Advocacy: Collaborate with other agencies to provide services to clients that The Initiative might not offer
• Collaborate with shelters and safehouses to coordinate transportation for clients to their facilities
• Create training materials, as needed, to meet deliverables and provide up-to-date information to participants of trainings
• Track, review, and file data collected from outreach events and ensure adherence to policies stipulated by our funders
• Data and Outcomes (3 Hours)
• Provide data to the Director of Programs and Operations in a timely manner and respond to requests for data updates promptly
• Attend weekly staff meetings to report on status of program and to receive support for complex cases
• Attend weekly one on ones with Director of Programs and Operations to discuss performance and areas for growth and development
• Track financial assistance survey results and accurately report them (Flex Fund and internal surveys)
• Maintain and update client files, document all contacts with clients using case management software
Qualifications
• 1-2 years of victim advocacy experience
• 1-2 years of experience working with vulnerable populations
• 1-2 years of experience working with case management software
• Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
• Ability to network and cultivate strong relationships
• Comfort in presenting to large groups of people
• Proficiency with technology related to working in a remote environment
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
• Located in or near Adams County (preferred, not mandatory)
