Project Sales Engineer
Location: Chicago, Illinois OR Madison, Wisconsin
Summary:
As a member of a Sales Department, the Sales Engineer works to develop and sell project work as it relates to the client including order follow-up and customer relationships, pricing, order entry, and change orders. The Sales Engineer works with all sales personnel and Project Managers on pricing requests, proposals, negotiations development, pipeline forecasting, and contract administration support.
Job Duties
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
Sales Leads / Activities
Search and document new sales leads.
Initiate proposal and contract development, negotiations and alliance meetings.
Provide detailed contractual review to manage risks in scope, terms and conditions
Work with Proposal Administrator to maintain and update project history along with current and recent projects list (bi-yearly).
Attend selected technical meetings and conferences.
Make selected sales calls individually and with other project team members.
Develop and maintain customer contacts.
Maintain and update sales files and documents.
Bid Process
Maintain and update weekly Project Pricing Summary.
Coordinate bid process including pricing requests, document control and contract information distribution.
Review bid documents. Develop exceptions and clarifications for proposal and pricing.
Proposal development with Project Management including scope, price, schedule, comments, & strategies.
Held accountable for booking the work.
Maintain and update vendor information, descriptive brochures.
Attend selected bid review meetings with salesman and customer.
Order Follow
Coordinate, develop, and enter Order Entries and Change Orders.
Assist with contract and contract amendment execution and distribution.
Help coordinate/initiate project kick-off meetings.
Generate and follow ongoing correspondence with customers for contract amendments. Define and document work scope changes, request and assimilate price changes, and prepare correspondence to customer.
Monitor job cost information.Provide assistance to accounting for outstanding invoices and variances from estimates.
Attend major progress meetings with customer as may be required.
- Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Marketing, or Business from an accredited university is required. At least 2 (two) years experience in the high voltage industry, in construction or operations of substations and/or transmission lines. Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate is required.
Possess skills in the following areas:
- Experience in estimating, construction management, contracts management, industry with understanding of Project Development, bid awards, and completed projects
- A proven track record in sales and new business development within the electrical industry is preferred
Demonstrate understanding of substations
Ability to negotiate and influence key decision makers
Excellent customer service skills, proficient in developing and maintaining client relationships
Understand financial aspects of project controls
Technical writing skills with an understanding of business management concepts
Technical knowledge, organizational ability and leadership talent
- Computer literate: familiar with Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project, and PowerPoint presentation software; familiarity with engineering software is preferred
- Willing to travel on a limited basis
This position will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of company business objectives and will ensure that all financial and budgetary targets are met on a project by project basis in conjunction with Construction and Project Managers.
Job Requirements
- This position requires minimal physical effort.
- Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
- Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
- Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
