Summary Of Job
The Sr Industrial Engineer applies a broad base of knowledge and skills to complete projects to reduce operational losses and improve process capabilities of manufacturing, operational, and other processes. They work in various capacities (leader of project teams, member of project teams, and independently) to improve operational performance through the optimization of existing and/or the implementation of new manufacturing technologies that reduce costs by improving the efficiency of product-required processes to manufacture, convert, transport, mark, store, identify, communicate, track materials, or other.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
The Sr Industrial Engineer works under the direction of their supervisor in the creation of the process technology roadmap, project selection, and project prioritization. They will use DMAIC/DMADV and other appropriate methods and process tools to ensure effective program, project, and process management. They will execute both incremental and innovative solutions. They will exhibit dedication to understanding and accounting for the impact of their work regarding the health and safety of all affected persons, the quality of product for our customer, the efficiency of processes and their resulting costs for our business.
The Sr Industrial Engineer will build, maintain, and further develop the repository of knowledge within their domain(s) as to the current capabilities of equipment, bottlenecks, process and capital improvement paths. They will be consulted both periodically and when called upon to provide guidance as to expected future performance and paths to achieve same. They play a direct role in the global integration of best practices. They will guide or instruct others as appropriate to these goals across Pregis including the coordination of other professionals. They will mentor other engineering professionals.
The Sr Industrial Engineer will exhibit strong strategic planning and decision-making skills and work seamlessly with all components of Pregis to meet business objectives. They will demonstrate influential leadership skills for both internal and external communications and be comfortable with senior level interactions. The Sr Industrial Engineer will operate with considerable latitude for independent decisions within an overall project plan scope of work.
Duties (Essential Tasks)
- Utilizes Industrial Engineering (and related ancillary tools) to improve manufacturing and operational costs and capacity - 50-75%
- Defines, compiles, and maintains (in collaboration with others) Pregis Values Streams, constraints and opportunity ranking.
- In collaboration with manufacturing sites, lead and assist in IE projects using internal and external resources.
- Uses a diverse set of appropriate professional tools to improve OEE and net cost while maintaining or improving Safety and Quality outputs.
- Reviews and assesses projects (capital and otherwise) for their impact on applicable processes and financial criteria.
- Works with the development and manufacturing teams to ensure that efficiency, material utilization, and line utilization and reliability are a critical part of the development of new products and applications.
- Documents, shares, and presents project work and other findings to foster project progress, team alignment, and best practice sharing.

Location and Travel Requirements
- This position will be based proximally to Pregis manufacturing operations in and around the greater Chicago / Indiana region with the default workplace being an existing Pregis manufacturing site as agreed upon during the hiring process.
- The position will travel routinely to other Pregis locations and may include up to 50% travel (not including travel to sites within a 2-hour radius of the home site). Travel is determined by business needs and opportunities and will only be undertaken when such exists.
- Travel (domestic and international) will follow all company policies to protect the health, safety, and well-being of the employee.
Education and Experience
Essential:
B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering
Desirable:
M.S. Degree in same or related engineering fields (controls, automation, etc.).
Experience:
Essential:
10+ years of technical manufacturing experience (industrial engineer, system engineer, continuous improvement engineer, etc.). Experienced and focused in making gains based upon both collaborative working with subject-matter-experts of individual processes and detailed mathematical modeling of constraints. Experienced with leading small to medium capital projects (>$150K to $1.5M).
Desirable:
15+ years of technical experience including the above “essential” items plus additional specific experience with large capital projects ($1.5M to $30M+) including automation and related adjacent technologies (data systems, etc.).
