We are seeking a Digital Engineering Lead to join our team with a focus on building & enhancing the digital experience for auto insurance customers through mobile-first application development. In this role, you will provide leadership across multiple development teams, working closely with Business teams to define and execute their digital roadmap. You will be responsible for overseeing the execution of transformational efforts on the digital journeys of our customers. Additional responsibilities will include managing vendor relationships, conducting product evaluations, strategic platform planning, and ensuring alignment with our customer value chain leadership.
Position Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Under general direction, manage multiple teams to significantly impact the company’s objectives and results.
- Provide quality, timely, and cost-effective Information Systems services to support the company mission and strategies, with a focus on enhancing the customer value chain.
- Lead the development and execution of a digital strategy aimed at delivering exceptional mobile-first experiences for auto insurance customers.
- Manage teams of internal and external contractors and employees to execute large, cross-functional application systems.
- Consult senior-level stakeholders across the entire organization to identify business and technology needs and to optimize the use of information technology
- Collaborate with business partners to stay ahead of digital trends and innovations.
- Ensure smooth delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring systems performance making process and recommendations for service enhancements.
- Create processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems
- Provide direction, guidance, and training to IT and business staff as needed.
- Project and Resource Management:
- Coordinate system resources and projects with customers, vendors, and other areas to ensure seamless integration and superior user experience.
- Oversee the build-out of proprietary applications and services on a modern cloud-based platform, focusing on mobile applications that enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.
- Drive the adoption of progressive web apps (PWAs) and mobile apps to improve customer interactions and satisfaction.
- Implement agile development strategies and MVP approaches to accelerate the delivery of high-quality digital products.
- Develop and manage the transition strategy from legacy systems to modern, cloud-based platforms, ensuring minimal disruption to customer services.
Position Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Education equivalent to a college degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of experience in leading teams involved in designing, building, and implementing large-scale software solutions in the P&C insurance industry, with a focus on mobile-first applications (Commercial Auto and Private Passenger Auto experience a plus).
- 10+ years of leading and management of large teams including coaching and personnel development as well as performance management.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities communicating and reporting at the business and IT executive level
- Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively with stakeholders and senior business leadership of departments and customers participating in this project
- Ability to organize and work effectively with project teams made up of internal staff and/or external parties (agents, vendors, etc.)
- Ability to build consensus among business and technology stakeholders.
- Policy processing experience and change management experience across IT and Business.
- Technical Skills:
- Proven track record in leading and building Information Systems delivery organizations, with a focus on customer-facing digital application development.
- Prior experience in managing and leading digital engineering teams
- Experience managing the integration with core insurance systems (e.g., policy management, billing, quoting, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in the configuration and deployment of systematic business solutions, with a focus on mobile-first strategies.
- Experience with progressive web apps (PWAs) and mobile apps development.
- Proficiency in agile development methodologies and MVP approaches.
- Skills and experience in front-end technologies such as Angular preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with AWS services preferred.
- Proficiency in backend technologies using Java/Spring Boot preferred.
- Experience with Postgres database management is a plus.
- Experience executing transformation projects.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Demonstrated leadership qualities in communicating and reporting at the business and IT executive level.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and senior business leadership.
- Ability to build consensus among business and technology stakeholders.
- Ability to organize and work effectively with project teams made up of internal staff and/or external parties (agents, vendors, etc.).
- Operational Skills:
- Ability to run and ensure successful project delivery, particularly in mobile app development.
- Ability to effectively prioritize multiple workstreams based on expected business outcomes.
- Ability to derive SLAs and KPIs for critical business systems and functionality.
- Ability to lead teams to triage and resolve system outages and prevent similar future outages.
