Job Summary:
The Marine Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical and electrical systems on board a barge located in Port Hueneme. This role ensures that all engineering activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on generators, pumps, and other mechanical and electrical systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
- Operation and Monitoring:
- Operate and monitor the performance of the auxiliary systems.
- Ensure all systems are functioning efficiently and respond promptly to any alarms or anomalies.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with national and international maritime regulations and standards.
- Participate in safety drills and emergency response exercises.
- Work closely with other crew members to ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Provide guidance and training to junior engineering staff and deck crew on technical and safety matters.
- Communicate effectively with the shore-based management team regarding maintenance needs and operational status.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of equipment performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare reports on equipment status, repairs, and inspections for management review.
- Ensure all documentation is in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of marine systems, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Familiarity with maritime safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed on board a barge located in the harbor. You will be able to come home every night.
- Must be physically fit and able to perform tasks that require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
