Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Near the South Bend, IN area
Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing efficient manufacturing processes to optimize production, improve product quality, and reduce costs. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth operation of manufacturing activities and drives continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, including the design and implementation of assembly lines, workflows, and production schedules.
- Analyze production data, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with product design teams to ensure the manufacturability of new products and provide input on design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process flow diagrams.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address quality issues and minimize scrap and rework.
- Manage capital equipment projects, including the selection, installation, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
- Develop and manage budgets for manufacturing projects and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and production staff.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in using CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, for designing and modeling manufacturing processes.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles, six sigma methodology, and continuous improvement tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, VSM).
- Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, such as machining, injection molding, and assembly.
- Familiarity with quality management systems, such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in data analysis and statistical tools, such as Minitab or JMP.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
