The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, self-driven, and ‘Do-it-Better’ Product Owner for our global aviation group, including the Aircraft Performance Group, as well as our subsidiaries, RocketRoute and Seattle Avionics. We are recruiting for a person with direct fixed-wing flight planning and operations experience across a breadth of mission types, such as business aviation, commercial aviation, offshore, HEMS/Police, charter, cargo, military, and private aviation. As a successful Product Owner, you will be fully responsible for the vision, implementation, and success of one or more flight planning software solutions. You need not have done it all, however, the right candidate will have done enough, in enough different environments to know how it’s done now, and how it could be done better. You will report to the Global Head of Product Development. Working closely with customers and industry groups, you will maintain expert knowledge of industry needs, trends, and regulatory mandates. You will then transform these concepts into business requirements and articulate them to business stakeholders and software development teams. You will be the industry expert that oversees the development of exceptional products and services that will allow APG to lead the aviation industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Remain constantly aware of the needs of our customers and the aviation industry and respond to those needs by creating products that set APG’s solutions apart from the competition.

- Interact directly with customers, potential customers, business partners and regulatory agencies to understand industry needs.
- Decompose high level business cases into detailed user stories that the Delivery team can estimate, develop, and test.
- Take responsibility for maintaining a prioritized backlog and communicating priorities to the Development team.
- Work with business, technical and testing resources to clarify business requirements and resolve issues.

- Create documentation such as policies, procedures, workflows, and user guides, especially to support Sales team empowerment and marketing quality.
- Take responsibility for the requirements elicitation process, engaging with business owners and stakeholders to understand their needs, anticipate and identify business requirements, and document the details as appropriate for the delivery team.
- Create/update and manage product documentation as new features and solutions are implemented, to include workflows, business rules, demo videos, etc.
- Continually develop and maintain product expertise, including customer site visits and industry event attendance as required.
Required Experience and Job Qualifications
- A professional aviation qualification such as Flight Crew, Flt Ops/Dispatch/, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in at least two significantly different operating and or regulatory environments.
- Knowledge of Agile and SCRUM methodologies. Product owner training, experience, and certification highly desirable.
- Self-starter who can work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple business and technology functions.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and complex technical environments, with a highly analytical approach to work.
- Strong IT/Computer proficiency, with at least competency in using Word, Excel & PowerPoint, so that a transition to specific Product software tools such as Jira may be accomplished quickly.
The ideal candidate can take the 20 and figure out the 80, has situational awareness and understands the chain of command as they represent others before they represent themselves. The ideal candidate is output-oriented, knows when to yield and when not to yield, has a relentless willingness to raise the bar, hold themselves and others accountable, and excels in a diverse international environment across different nationalities, geographies and cultures. Be prepared to be unprepared when you apply!!
