VDI ENGINEER
Role Summary:
The Senior Endpoint Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of our Endpoint Virtualization solutions. This role requires extensive experience with Omnissa/VMware Horizon View, Citrix Cloud, Azure Virtual Desktops, or Windows 365. The ideal candidate will ensure the optimal performance, security, and user experience of our VDI environments. They gather input, provide strategic direction, and ensure our infrastructure aligns with our vision. This role involves close collaboration with IT teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements, implement technology solutions, and manage the resulting systems. Additionally, they communicate the status of corporate and divisional initiatives.
The Engineer must exhibit expert skills in leadership, project management, hardware/software architecture, best practices, computer security, compliance, and enterprise architectures. They are subject matter experts in virtualizing applications and desktops for large enterprises and are responsible for maintaining the strategic direction of our enterprise infrastructure systems.
Key Duties:
- Lead and manage the migration of workflows from VMware Horizon View to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance during transitions.
- Architect, deploy, and manage VDI solutions using Omnissa/VMware Horizon View, Citrix Cloud, Azure Virtual Desktops, and Windows 365.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the security, compliance, and efficiency of Endpoint Virtualization environments.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize configurations for reliability and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Virtual Apps and Desktops solutions with other IT services and infrastructure.
- Provide expert-level support and guidance to IT staff and end-users.
- Possess and display expert skills in the following areas: technical troubleshooting, vendor management, customer service, communication, thought leadership and project management
- Stay current with the latest developments and best practices in Virtual Apps and Desktops technologies.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers and IT staff.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all systems and processes.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills:
Required:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT, with at least 4 years in a senior or architect role focused on Virtual Apps and Desktops solutions.
- Extensive experience with Omnissa/VMware Horizon View, Citrix Cloud, Azure Virtual Desktops, and Windows 365.
- Strong understanding of VDI security, compliance, and data protection best practices.
- Experience building and creating workstation images in a Virtual Apps and Desktop environment.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience administering Windows 2016/2019/2022 required.
- Extensive experience managing desktop operating systems including Windows 10/11.
- Experience in migrating workflows from VMware Horizon View to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
- Proven ability to design and implement complex IT systems and solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and experience supporting enterprise solutions preferred.
- Experience providing status of projects to senior members of the leadership team preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Citrix Certified Administrator/Professional (CCA/CCP), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty are highly desirable.
Additional Skills: Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix Cloud, Horizon View, Azure Virtual Desktops (AVD).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duration: 11/25 to start, to run for 12 months, with chance to extend.
Location: Can be a remote position, as long as the candidate can work core Pacific time zone hours.
Daily Schedule: M-F, 40 hours a week, no OT anticipated.
Please Note: If possible, would like the worker to be able to be on-call one week every 10-ish weeks - schedule is TBD.
Hardware: Client will provide.
Role Requirements: Client requires a background test & a drug screen before going onsite.
