SBIFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and educational organization, best known for the main film festival that takes place in February each year. SBIFF also runs a state-of-the-art arthouse cinema year-round, the Riviera Theatre, focusing on independent and foreign cinema as well as many industry screenings featuring Q&As with actors, directors, producers, etc. SBIFF is soon to open the Film Center, a 5-screen theatre at 916 State St. to expand our mission to engage, enrich, and inspire people through the power of film.
Job Description
We looking to hire motivated, teamwork-oriented staff to provide the best possible experience for our guests. We are hiring theater staff, supervisors, as well as assistant managers. The Film Center will be operating 7 days a week, open on all weekends and holidays. Staff will be tasked with assuring that the theatre runs smoothly so that every single guest has an outstanding experience.
Ensure successful daily theatre operations by:
- Providing service that is friendly, helpful and fast
- Maintaining facilities that are clean, safe and in good repair
- Providing an experience that is comfortable, distraction-free and picture-perfect
- Serving fresh, appetizing and properly prepared snacks and beverages
All Staff Responsibilities
· Greeting customers and visitors in a professional manner
· Providing movie, special event, and general theatre information
· Processing ticket and concession orders through the POS system, including credit cards and cash handling
· Preparing concession orders as requested, including popcorn, drinks, candy and snacks
· Cleaning auditoriums after each screening
· Watching for safety or security issues (trip hazards, lighting, suspicious persons, etc.) and reporting to management immediately
· Performing nightly closing duties including equipment cleaning, re-stocking and anything else required for the next day’s operation
· Preforming basic weekly cleaning duties and tasks assigned to you by your supervisors
Supervisory and Assistant Manager Responsibilities
· Counting the safe fund and being responsible for all cash on the floor, including maintaining each cash drawer, getting change and preforming cash deposits as necessary
· Counting all cash drawers at the end of the night, completing the necessary cash reconciliation, and other end-of-night paperwork/reports
· Counting inventory, entering it into the POS system, and resolving any discrepancies
· Keeping a good eye on all aspects of the theater operation, including Theater Staff, projection/sound systems, POS systems, and ensuring excellent customer service
· Assigning tasks to Theater Staff and confirming that they are completed
· Operating the projection system, sound and lights for each screening (we will provide training)
· Managing incoming film content, ingesting content into the projectors, receiving and ingesting decryption keys for each film, making playlists, including assigned trailers and advertising
· Completing a detailed daily theater walk-through of all areas of the building, including auditoriums, concession stand, storage closets, staff areas, etc.
· Having a good understanding of all aspects of the theater operation
· Monitoring staff to ensure the best possible customer service and guest experience
· Maintaining and frequently checking company emails and responding in a timely manner (during work hours)
· Creating the weekly staff schedule, taking into account staff availability
· Complete a weekly spreadsheet of theater performance to track various metrics over time
· Train staff on all levels as needed
· Work with the projection system daily to make sure all upcoming films, decryption keys and playlists are accurate and that the screenings have been scheduled accordingly
· Prepare the paperwork and materials for the weekly armored cash pickup
· Place a weekly order with the bank to receive small bills/quarters
· Finalize inventory counts that supervisors enter in the POS system and investigate any discrepancies
· Reboot all projectors and servers weekly
· Test all films on screen to ensure picture quality, sound and subtitles (if required) are all up to our standard
· Work with the POS system to enter bookings, received orders, enter spoilage and anything else that may be required
Candidates Need To Be
- Comfortable communicating and working with guests, supervisors, and peers
- Standing for an extensive period, walking, and lifting on a frequent basis
· Committed to contributing to a team-oriented atmosphere with a positive attitude
· Professional and respectful in appearance and conduct
· Punctual in all responsibilities
· Happy to assist guests and co-workers
· Available to work evening hours, weekends, and holidays
· Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
· Accurate cash handling and math skills
Position Requirements
Supervisor experience of more than 2 years, excellent cash handling skills, proven ability to lead and motivate a team, good understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Docs, tech/AV experience preferred (can be learned on the job)

· Times depend on film schedule and runtimes
· Friday and Saturday - 12:00pm - 12:00am
· Sunday through Thursday 1:00pm - 10:00pm
