Scope of Responsibility:
The Director EHS Utility is responsible for directing and providing environmental, safety, and health program oversight for the Utility division of Sabre Industries. The position works closely with the VP/GM of Utility to improve the Utility divisions’ safety culture. The Director of EHS Utility provides leadership to implement programs that are focused on creating an incident free workplace.
Essential Duties:
- Proactively identify, develop, aggressively pursue, and implement strategic, operational and work process improvements within the EHS department and production operations, which support an incident-free workplace.
- Establish a daily visible presence in the manufacturing work environment to coach, mentor and monitor safety professionals, production leadership and employees regarding world-class safety practices.
- Develop, implement, analyze, and drive accountability of the Utility Division’s EHS initiatives and programs. Coordinate as required with the Corporate EHS Director to ensure consistency with Sabre Industries initiatives and policies.
- Manage incidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions and events; lead RCCA incident investigations.
- Prepare, analyze and report safety statistics and trend analysis on leading and lagging safety indicators, through regular monitoring and reporting of KPI’s, and quickly address and drive down any negative trends.
- Lead, develop, evaluate, and promote talent by overseeing a diverse EHS team.
- Ensure that required work area site inspections, safety audits and employee observations are being completed.
- Mitigate unsafe working conditions and unsafe employee behaviors through safety hierarchy controls, engineering controls, training programs and directing management on safety requirements.
- Foster an environment that encourages superior Safety Awareness and Environmental Stewardship through the implementation and support of the Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
- Proactively collaborate with Human Resources to create and implement effective production safety new hire orientation and refresher training programs.
- Collaborate with finance risk team to ensure the EHS team is prepared for internal and external audits, knowledgeable on requirements, and compliant with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Manages EHS staff for property claims and worker compensation case management.
- Develops needs assessment and evaluation criteria for procurement and implementation of risk management strategies.
- Provide robust communication regarding EHS programs and regulatory developments to senior management.

Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety & environmental management or equivalent experience
- 10+ years EHS leadership
- Possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or equivalent
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- A subject matter expert on all aspects of EHS management
- Demonstrated experience in safety culture change.
- Demonstrated leadership of EHS teams and proven experience in strategic EHS management and multi-site manufacturing.
- Ability to credibly and effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Must have advanced knowledge and training in Behavior Based Programs, Incident Investigation, Root Cause Analysis, Continuous Improvement Methods, Lean Manufacturing principles including 6S.
- Demonstrated experience in interacting and compliance with the EPA and OSHA, as well as State regulatory agencies.
- Strong demonstrated ability to conduct training at all levels of the organization.
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and industry standards inclusive of (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, NFPA fire regulations, OSHA and EPA.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the clear and concise transfer of information with all levels of employees and customers, both internally and externally.
- Ability to identify, define, analyze, and prioritize opportunities and problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and solve problems efficiently. ? Flexibility in hours to support diverse teams.
- Ability to travel on regular bases to Sabre Industries Utility manufacturing locations.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials.
- Must be able to work in an outside manufacturing environment for long shifts, including weekends.
- Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
- Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures.
