Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will participate in high-level design discussions and be responsible for developing architecture and bringing high-level concepts to finished products. Your role will involve 50-60% CAD work and layouts, 30% lab work, and 10% administrative tasks. You will act as the optical subject matter expert for new spectrometer development and active products, addressing issues like reflectivity in coatings. You will work with external vendors and internal resources to develop working prototypes, ensuring they meet system requirements. Additionally, you will assemble and test prototypes, identify root causes of issues, and provide targeted solutions while weighing cost, complexity, and implementation. You will also work with manufacturing and suppliers to bring product designs from the engineering prototype phase to product release, research new processes and technologies to develop more cost-effective and higher-functioning instruments, and address quality or value engineering issues on current products. Your responsibilities will include defining system requirements, architecture, and engineering design of new products, providing performance, effort, and cost estimates at multiple project stages, and ensuring designs meet requirements and cost targets.
