Rogers Joseph O’Donnell, P.C., is seeking an associate with at least 3-5 years of litigation experience to work in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. This position will primarily support the firm’s Chambers and Legal 500 rated Government Contracts Practice Group. However, associates at RJO are expected to work with other practice groups within the firm when the need arises.
Candidates barred in Virginia are preferred, but RJO will consider candidates barred in any jurisdiction provided that they must gain admission to practice in the District of Columbia upon joining the firm. Ideal candidates should be self-starters with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. We are looking for candidates with solid academic credentials, excellent writing skills, strong analytical abilities with a consistent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
RJO prides itself on its inclusivity, its concrete commitment to diversity, and the loyalty of its clients, attorneys, and staff. The firm is a member of the 2024-25 midsize cohort of Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule Certification process. The Mansfield Rule for Midsize Firms program focuses on measurable goals, as well as collaboration with other participating law firms who share RJO’s values for promoting a more inclusive legal industry.
Excellent lawyering, smart business-focused advice, and our collaborative team of staff and attorneys keep the firm successful and healthy, and make it a truly pleasant place to work. Associates are given client-facing opportunities early and often. This is the type of firm where becoming a shareholder is a realistic goal for those who show a commitment and dedication to their own professional development.
The firm has always taken a flexible approach on remote work for attorneys but also values the collegiality that is built by face-to-face interactions, as such, associates are currently expected to be present at least three days a week in the office.
The annual salary range for this role is $160,000 to $185,000 per year, with benefits (among other things, the firm pays the entirety of an associate’s health and dental insurance premiums and 30 percent of the premiums for dependents). This is the salary range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An associate’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications and business needs.
Associates are expected to work a minimum of 1800 billable hours per year to remain in good standing. Approved pro-bono work up to 100 hours and approved diversity, equity and inclusion work up to 25 hours will count toward 1800 billable hours target. Associates who work above the minimum billable hour requirement are eligible to receive the following hours-based bonuses:
Total Billable Hours Additional Bonus
1900 7 percent of annual compensation
2000 8 percent of annual compensation
2100 10 percent of annual compensation
In addition to hours-based bonuses, associates are also eligible for merit-based bonuses each year based on a variety of factors, such as achieving outstanding results for a client, contributions to the firm, and business development efforts.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, writing sample, law school transcript and resume by email to this job posting with attention to: Tracy D'Ambrosi, Office Manager: tdambrosi@rjo.com. Rogers Joseph O'Donnell is an equal opportunity employer.
