Banking client with offices in Connecticut and NYC, is seeking a Commercial Credit Underwriter Officer to join their department. This hire will have underwriting experience within a private bank or financial services industry.
Commercial Credit Underwriter Responsibilities:
- Commercial Credit Underwriter will review, analyze and evaluate the credit worthiness of commercial and consumer applicants utilizing tax returns, other financial statements and third-party reports such as appraisals, property condition reports, plan and cost reviews, and environmental due diligence reports. Underwrite a broad range of complex loan requests including loans to finance income producing commercial real estate, construction and development projects, working capital lines of credit, and other commercial and industrial requests.
- Ability to present an accurate and detailed loan approval package identifying all relevant information needed to make a credit decision such as loan structure and conditions, borrower and guarantor background, sources of repayment, financial strengths and weaknesses, risk rating, etc.
- Commercial Credit Underwriter will present loan approval packages alongside banker to loan committees as applicable for consideration and approval.
- Serve as an expert in Bank loan policy and procedures and assist in development of new policies as needed.
- Successfully build relationships with senior management, bankers and banking associates and assist in identifying client needs, structuring loan requests, ongoing monitoring of existing relationships, etc.
- Ability to conduct industry, company, geographical area and competitive landscape analysis as directed.
- Successfully support secondary credit functions and demonstrate willingness to take on special projects as needed.
Commercial Credit Underwriter Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting or finance. Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ underwriting experience, preferably with a private bank.
- Proficiency in loan and credit analysis and understanding of business/personal financial statements required.
- Experience in CRE and C&I credits required.
- Comprehensive underwriting experience / exposure across multiple loan and collateral types, and across consumer and commercial lending, strongly desired.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, intellectual curiosity and initiative required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook – required. System / IT aptitude required.
- Ability to work independently and under critical time constraints required.
- Knowledge of financial spreading software and loan origination systems.
