Mainframe Operations Engineer – C or CTP – Richmond, VA– $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
The final salary or hourly wage, as applicable, paid to each candidate/applicant for this position is ultimately dependent on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s/applicant’s qualifications, skills, and level of experience as well as the geographical location of the position.

Our client is seeking a Mainframe Operations Engineer in Richmond, VA.
Skills & Requirements
Required:
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe operations, preferably with IBM Z series mainframes.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• In depth understanding and extensive experience with Job Control Language (JCL).
• Knowledge of the z/OS or z/VSE/VSEn operating systems, including experience with CICS, CICS Transaction Gateway, and CICS Web Services.
• Understanding of batch processing and job scheduling systems.
• Experience monitoring and troubleshooting batch processes.
• Experience installing Cobol applications from a DEV environment through test environments and to production.
• Some knowledge of other programming languages commonly used in the z/OS and z/VSE environment, such as Assembler, COBOL, PL/I, REXX, or CP/CMS EXEC.
• Understanding of VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method) file storage and access method.
• The ability to analyze system logs, dumps, and other diagnostic information.
In this role the candidate will provide technical support and troubleshooting, system administration, system monitoring, quality service, production system management, and system error analysis of our mainframes.

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe administration.
• 2+ years of experience with z/VM, z/VSE or VSEN and z/VSE/VSEn.
• A master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Certifications such as IBM Certified System Programmer, IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert, or similar.
• Knowledge of VTAM networking and SNA protocols.
• Experience with the Zeke/VSE mainframe job scheduler.
• Proficiency in basic Linux administration tasks.
• Understanding of and experience with VSE Interactive Computing and Control Facility (ICCF).
