About the Role:
We’re seeking an experienced Underground Transmission Line Engineer to join our transmission engineering team. This role involves designing, developing, and managing the implementation of high-voltage underground transmission lines for critical infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive projects from conception through commissioning, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
What You’ll Do:
Design & Engineering:
- Use PLS-CADD to develop detailed models and routing solutions for underground transmission lines, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with technical standards.
- Leverage CYMCAP to analyze thermal ratings and perform ampacity calculations for underground cables, factoring in soil resistivity, thermal stability, and load characteristics.
- Utilize GIS software to conduct route analysis, assess land use, and identify optimal paths for minimal environmental impact.
- Project Oversight: Lead the execution of underground transmission projects, coordinating with field teams, contractors, and suppliers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Technical Expertise: Provide on-site support and troubleshooting for issues related to underground systems, including fault location and preventative maintenance.
- Compliance: Ensure all designs and installations adhere to regulatory and environmental standards, working closely with compliance and environmental teams.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed project records, prepare engineering reports, and contribute to quality assurance practices for improved system reliability.
What You’ll Bring:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 3-5+ years in transmission line engineering, with specific expertise in underground high-voltage systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in transmission design software (e.g., PLS-CADD, CYMCAP), knowledge of NESC and IEEE standards, and experience with load flow and fault analysis.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex projects, prioritize tasks, and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder collaboration.
