GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, executing, and closing managed IT projects for new and existing clients. This position will work closely with the MSP Project Engineer, MSP Project Technician, and network operations to ensure that the project deliverables are met within the scope, budget, and timeline. The Project Manager will also communicate with the clients, stakeholders, and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
TYPES OF MSP PROJECTS
Our MSP Project Team oversees the onboarding of new clients and the implementation of several different types of projects for our client base. Because of this, we have two types of projects, Onboarding and Professional Services.
Onboarding
- Be the first technical experience our clients have with us!
- Collaborating and training clients on the different services we are implementing and how to contact technical support
- Fully document client environments from both an operational and technical standpoint
- Implement services such as email filtering, EDR/MDR, MFA, and NGAV
Professional Services
- Networking Installations – New install or replacement of firewalls, switches, wireless access points.
- Server Installations – New install or replacement of on-premises servers with a new on-premises or cloud hosted server infrastructure. May include server roles and features such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, File, and Print services.
- Azure / Entra and Microsoft 365 – Broad spectrum of projects for Azure / Entra domain joining devices, migrating email solutions, configuring and migrating file structures to SharePoint, etc.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Survey, identify, document, and proactively plan projects for new and existing clients:
- Define the project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress.
- Coordinate with the MSP Project Engineer and MSP Project Technician to assign tasks, monitor progress, and troubleshoot issues.
- Track and report the project status, milestones, and risks with stakeholders.
- Ensure that the project documentation is updated and maintained in the knowledge base system.
- Ensure that the project quality standards and best practices are followed and adhered to.
- Facilitate the project handover and transition to the help desk and field teams.
- Provide support and training for the clients and end-users as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients during project execution.
- Conduct project kick-off meetings with clients to discuss goals and objectives.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of services.
- Regularly communicate project status and issues to project stakeholders.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and manage project risks throughout the project life cycle.
- Coordinate the resolution of technical issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Collaborate with other teams to escalate major risks and issues as necessary.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and project management best practices.
- Conduct project evaluations in the forms of profitability reports and after action reviews.
Customer Service:
- Maintain high customer satisfaction through professional and courteous interactions.
- Address and resolve customer complaints
- Coordinate the resolution of technical issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Perform other duties as required
OPTIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Technology is a rapidly evolving environment, and the needs of our clients are always changing. To be successful as an MSP Project Manager, it would be beneficial to have the following experience:
- Have previous experience working with an MSP or in an MSP environment
- Implement or oversee the implementation of networking equipment and/or server environments
- Implement or oversee the implementation of EDR/MDR, MFA, and NGAV
- Migrations to or an understanding of Azure/Entra, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint
- Experience with ConnectWise Manage / PSA
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting up to 50lbs., twisting, bending, walking upwards of 2 – 3 hours consistently during surveys. Travel to client locations and back to headquarters, distance depending on client, but averaging between 30 – 60 miles one way. Must be willing to work outside of regular business hours depending on the needs of the project and client.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is approximately 90% from sedentary at In-Telecom headquarters and traveling to and working at client locations. This will depend on the needs of the project and client. Approximately 95% of the work is performed indoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field
- 3+ years’ experience in IT project management or coordination.
- Proven experience in managing IT projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ experience in IT project management or coordination.
- Prior experience with ConnectWise PSA and Continuum RMM.
- Relevant IT certifications such as: CompTIA Project+, CAPM, PMP, ITIL 4 (Foundation or Specialist), Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt)
