Job Title: Paralegal (Employment & Labor)
Location: Lake Success, NY
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Paralegal (Employment & Labor) to join our dynamic legal team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and assist in a broad range of legal matters concerning both Employers and Employees. The ideal candidate will have experience in employment law, labor law, and compliance, with a strong focus on client service and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Litigation Support: Assist the Partner/Director of Employment Law in representing clients in litigation before federal, state, and local agencies, as well as state and federal courts.
- Legal Document Preparation: Draft, review, and prepare legal documents, including employment agreements, contracts, policies, employee handbooks, and discovery documents.
- Research & Compliance: Conduct legal research to support litigation, advise clients on legal issues related to employment and labor laws, and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., Title VII, FLSA, ADEA, FMLA, NY Human Rights Law, Workers’ Compensation).
- Client Communication & Service: Act as a client-facing contact, helping to build rapport with clients and communicate effectively with opposing counsel, government agencies (e.g., DOL), and other stakeholders.
- Settlement Negotiation Support: Assist in negotiating settlements for legal disputes and resolving employment-related conflicts.
- Administrative Support: Manage case files, calendar deadlines, schedule meetings, and appointments, and perform other administrative functions as needed.
- Billing & Documentation: Enter time into the billing system, review and send out bills monthly, and ensure all documentation is properly organized and stored in the case management system.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2-3 years of relevant paralegal experience, particularly in employment and labor law.
- Legal Knowledge: Solid understanding of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, FLSA, ADEA, FMLA, and New York State Human Rights Law, Labor Law, and Workers' Compensation Law.
- Skills: Strong research, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proofread and review long documents such as contracts and handbooks.
- Client Service: Ability to build rapport with clients and serve as an effective point of contact for client inquiries.
- Operational Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
