Who We are Looking For
Draper James is hiring an SVP Finance who will report directly to the CEO with high visibility to private equity ownership. The SVP Finance will lead the annual planning process, interim forecasts and project-based analyses, guiding company decision making and providing executive-level analytical storytelling to investors, lenders and other strategic stakeholders. Candidates should be excited to roll up their sleeves and jump into a highly entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment, where their efforts will have an immediate impact on strategic direction and business results.
About the Role
Managing a team of two, including a Controller, the SVP Finance will:
· Take ownership of omnichannel financial reporting and modeling, tailoring monthly/quarterly presentations and reporting packages to various internal and external stakeholders. Comfort building and maintaining with a three-statement financial model and cash flow projections will be critical to success.
· Expand our FP&A function, particularly as it relates to the Ecommerce business. An understanding of cohort modeling, transaction- and customer-level KPIs and benchmarking, as well as inventory planning and supply chain finance will be crucial to success.
· Move easily between deep diving into data to investigate trends and anomalies, and rolling findings up into ‘big picture’ executive-level themes and actionable strategies.
· Partner with the CEO to evaluate longer-term business development opportunities, model anticipated impact, review contracts, and bridge actualized results to expectations
· Work cross functionally with department heads to align on and track against budgets, negotiate contracts with third parties, etc.
· Manage relationship with public accounting firm to complete year-end audit, maintain compliance with sales tax laws and income tax filing requirements
· Manage relationship with external service provider to process payroll, joiners & leavers
· Assist in company response to regulatory, legal, compliance matters
Qualifications
· Strong managerial, analytical and system skills
· A self-starter, with the ability to continually evaluate priorities in a rapidly evolving environment and balance routine tasks with complex/ad-hoc workstreams, as well as the ability to evolve and professionalize company processes
· Results oriented, with the ability to identify issues/potential process improvements, gather relevant information, and work cross-functionally to drive to resolution
· Analytical, with the ability to aggregate and analyze large volumes of (sometimes imperfect) data and reach well-reasoned conclusions
· A desire to work in a start-up environment; it's not expected that you have experience across all of accounting/tax/FP&A/HR/legal/etc. but it is expected that you are comfortable wearing many hats, addressing issues as they come up, reaching out to your network / doing research as needed, and making recommendations to the CEO.
Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance
· 8-10 years of progressive, relevant experience in finance, either in house at a retail company or in a related finance function such as investment banking, private equity or consulting, with experience managing a team and presenting to a C-suite level audience
· Fluency in Microsoft Excel; experience building financial models
· Shopify/NetSuite experience a plus
This role will be required to be in our midtown New York City office three days/week.
