Job Description:
We are seeking a talented and innovative Optical Engineer to join our team and contribute to our Directed Energy projects. In this role, you will be engaged in cutting edge research and development driving the advancement of laser systems for defense and commercial applications. Your expertise will play a critical role in optimizing and enhancing our laser technologies, ensuring that our solutions remain at the forefront of high-energy laser innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop advanced laser weapon system beam directors, telescopes, and high energy laser sources.
- Conduct comprehensive trade studies, simulations, and modeling to optimize optical system design and performance.
- Participate in system integration, testing, and validation in relevant operational environments, ensuring seamless project execution from concept to deployment.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to support the design, development, integration, and verification of laser systems.
- Develop and implement laser system requirements, including modeling, assembly, troubleshooting, and test data analysis.
- Create detailed reports and presentations, supporting technical reviews, and diagnosing technical issues with effective solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in optical system design, assembly, analysis, and simulation, with a focus in EO/IR and laser systems.
- Experience in optical simulation and design software (Zemax preferred; Code V, Fred, Synopsis also acceptable).
- Experience in using laboratory measurement tools (oscilloscopes, interferometers, wavefront sensors, optical spectrum analyzers, cameras) and conducting optical and laser system tests.
- Hands-on experience with optical systems integration, assembly, setup, calibration, and operation.
- Ability to independently perform system alignment, calibration, and test procedures in a laboratory environment.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent software for evaluating imaging systems and data processing.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
