We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Quality and Commissioning(Cx)to develop and scale the business to meet the current market challenges, pace, and demands of our customer base.
Job Summary: The Director of Quality & Commissioning will lead and grow a team of quality control and commissioning experts, ensuring that all commissioning activities meet operational standards and align with business objectives. This role will focus on developing key performance indicators (KPIs), mentoring team members, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to enhance commissioning effectiveness, with a strong emphasis on quality control throughout the project lifecycle. This role will require significant focus on taking Aligned’s programs to the next level to include end-to-end QA/QC functions. The successful candidate will need exceptional leadership skills, drawing upon collaborative experiences and a high level of emotional intelligence to create a truly integrated, high functioning team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop an internal team of QA/QC and Cx professionals, fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify training opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
- Strategic Planning & Execution:
- Collaborate with Design, Construction, and Operations teams to align commissioning initiatives with business goals.
- Oversee the development, review, and implementation of project-specific commissioning plans in partnership with third-party commissioning agents.
- Develop performance based RFP for national CxA partners with the goal to create a limited but scalable group of CxA companies that can be deployed to our projects nationwide.
- Create strategy and leadership for the integration and execution of our general contractor’s QA/QC programs. This includes the utilization of third party resources to supplement contractor efforts when necessary.
- KPI Development & Management:
- Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to commissioning processes and operational effectiveness.
- Drive the team to achieve established KPIs, ensuring accountability and performance excellence.
- Quality Control Leadership:
- Develop and lead quality control efforts beginning at the design phase and continuing through project turnover.
- Ensure that quality assurance protocols are integrated into the commissioning process, conducting regular audits and inspections to maintain high execution standards.
- Ensure performance certainty across the portfolio to include turn over dates, quality, and cost metrics.
- Ensure quality assurance in the commissioning of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, adhering to project timelines and quality standards.
- Collaborate with project teams to implement best practices for quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Facilitate effective communication between project teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to support successful implementation of MEP systems.
- Attend construction progress meetings and job site meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues promptly.
- Commercial Procurement Support:
- Assist in all commercial aspects of procuring commissioning services, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with legal to develop mutually agreed master service agreements that facilitate direct negotiations for commissioning work.
- Work closely with cost managers and construction managers to effectively procure commissioning and quality services.
- Understand and incorporate business needs into commissioning initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Drive change management initiatives to promote the adoption of new processes and improvements across teams.
- Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare and present reports on project status, key metrics, and strategic initiatives to leadership and stakeholders.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance collaboration and achieve shared goals.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred; extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 15+ years of experience in mission-critical construction and data center commissioning.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing talent.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and make data-driven decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
