Senior Risk Analyst - Credit Risk

Overview:
The Senior Risk Analyst – Credit Risk role will join the ERM team, reporting to the US Chief Risk Officer / Head of Financial Risk Management. This role will make significant contributions to the management of Credit Risk in the Enterprise. In addition, the successful applicant will also contribute to ERM activities in other Financial Risk areas (Market Risk, Liquidity Risk).
The successful applicant role will contribute to the evolution of policy, exposure limits and the design of enterprise stress tests for the firm’s credit risk exposures. In addition, the role will conduct hands-on analysis of individual credit exposures, analyze asset portfolios in the context of Reinsurance transactions and lead thematic reviews of Credit Risk Exposures such as CLOs, Asset-Based Finance, and Commercial Real Estate among others. The successful applicant will provide results of reviews to the ERM Management team as well as the Enterprise Financial Risk Committee. Objectives of the reviews are to ensure individual credits are adequately underwritten, properly graded, and conform to the firms’ policies. The reviews and analysis performed will help TFGI manage the risk in the various legal operating subsidiaries and for the enterprise in total.
The role will work in close partnership with the firm’s investment management division and will be based in Hartford with NY-based applicants also considered.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head of Financial Risk in developing, implementing, and communicating risk-related policies and procedures across TFGI for enterprise credit risk
- Responsible for monitoring and / or analyzing credit risk exposures on a day-to-day and long-term basis
- Review strategic credit positions
- Assess value changes in largest exposures
- Assess counterparty ratings
- Review and remediate daily credit limit excess
- Ensure any pending credit exposure excesses are reported up to TFGI’s board
- Ensure concentrations are within stipulated limits
- Assess if all credit exposures are covered and mapped
- Report all significant risks related to individual credits
- Ensure credit risk reports reach all relevant parties and message concentration risks, if concerns exists or if corrective action is necessary
- Discuss significant concerns on individual credit risks if any with top management
- Contribute to the design of stress and scenario testing and analysis of TFGI’s general account portfolio at both the operating company and enterprise level
- Ensure large strategic transactions have full and proper documentation
- Review rating triggers and break clauses that may exist with reinsurance counterparties, derivative counterparties, or within bank covenants
- Ensure credit protection is fully understood, utilized, and incorporated in our stress tests
- Coordinate with business lines to develop and implement risk mitigation and hedging strategies. Maintain collaborative relationship with the Investment Management division
Qualifications:
- Credit Risk Officer or equivalent experience gained within the Bank, Investment, Life, Reinsurance, and related industries
- Solid Credit skills for a wide range of credit assets. Experience with CLOs, Asset-Based Finance, Private Credit, Private Equity and/or Commercial Real Estate a plus
- CFA, MBA, Accounting, or Actuarial designations
- 5+ years’ experience working in the Banking, investment or life and annuity (re)insurance industry
- Expertise in asset risk including market, interest rate and liquidity risk
- Strong communication skills to explain emerging issues to key stakeholders including management, ratings agencies, and regulators
