Position: Associate General Counsel (Conflicts)(Global Law Firm)
Company: Global Law Firm with Headquarters in NY
Location: NYC or Washington D.C. (hybrid)
Comp Package: Base Salary to $450K, Potential Sign-On Bonus, Year-End Bonus, Full Benefits, 401K+, etc.
Summary of Associate General Counsel: This is a pivotal role within the firm, responsible for general application of duties that involve advising key stakeholders including senior management and clients on firm issues related to ethics, risk, conflict analysis and resolution regarding potential new business intake and new and lateral attorney(s).
Responsibilities for Associate General Counsel:
- Identifying and facilitating the resolution and avoidance of conflicts and ethical issues that may arise through the intake of new clients or new matters or the hiring of lateral attorneys.
- Assist in leading a highly productive , client-focused team covering various aspects of new business intake, lateral attorney conflicts, and ethics compliance, including the coordination of daily workflow to ensure that performance is meeting the needs of the attorneys and clients.
- Take part in creating and implementing policies and procedures to ensure timely resolution of conflicts and ethical issues through increased awareness of risk management, communicating well verbally and in writing with key stakeholders
- Provide expert service on conflicts, ethics, risk, and compliance issues to counsel to designated attorneys including the implementation and maintenance of ethical screens and audit letter responses
- Keep up-to-date with current events that may impact different practice areas within the Firm
- Have substantive knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct and current state of legal ethics issues
Qualifications for Associate General Counsel:
- JD required and 10+ years of relevant experience in a law firm, with a strong background in conflicts of interest, risk and compliance
- Top candidates will have strong written and verbal communication abilities, research and analysis skills, and in-depth experience in the ethics and conflicts space related to new business intake and new and lateral attorney hiring.
- Significant knowledge of the rules applicable to lawyers and experience navigating complex conflicts issues in a timely and effective manner
- Excellent leadership and management skills and demonstrated ability to work confidently and collaboratively
- Excellent work ethic, organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility to manage a varied workload
