Location:
This is a hybrid /remote role in the Greater Oakland Area, with in-office days on Tuesdays and Thursdays if needed. Office location is lose to BART.
The Role:
As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting our finance team within a fast-paced startup. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you’ll manage payroll operations, assist with payroll inquiries, and support month-end close and audits. You'll handle multi-state payroll, off-cycle adjustments, and year-end reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Process payroll for about 800 multi-state employees (semi-monthly)
- Ensure accurate payroll for new hires, terminations, and changes
- Manage off-cycle payrolls and garnishments
- Reconcile payroll accounts and book journal entries
- Assist with payroll tax filings and W-2 processing
- Maintain payroll compliance with state and federal laws
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years’ experience in multi-state payroll
- Experience with ADP (preferred)
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups)
- Knowledge of payroll tax laws and wage regulations
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with NetSuite (optional)
