ESI is now hiring an Attorney in the Tallahassee, FL area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
ESI is seeking an Attorney who is responsible for conducting legal research, evaluating state statutes and preparation of legal opinions, and assisting in the preparation of trial briefs, pleadings, and oral arguments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar.
- Two years of professional experience in the practice of law.
- Availability to work long hours when needed, especially during legislative sessions.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, push a cart, or lift during the entire shift
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, including small packages and supplies
PREFFERED SKILLSET:
- Experience with the legislative process.
- Experience in constitutional litigation in federal and state court.
- Enthusiastic about working in the legislative process and supporting the company's interests
- Comfortable with reviewing voluminous public records requests.
- Able to self-start and work on long-term projects during slow periods.
- Pursues personal interests outside of work.
- Team oriented and personable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with legal research in evaluating state statutes and preparation of legal opinions on questions submitted by authorized persons.
- Prepares and drafts routine contracts, agreements, and related legal documents for authorized parties.
- Performs legal research and prepares memoranda related to various legal matters concerning the company, including issues related to constitutional law, employment law, and other areas as needed.
- Reviews public records requests and responses for compliance with Florida law
- Answers telephone inquiries from members and staff and composes routine responses.
- Assists in the preparation of trial briefs, pleadings, and oral arguments for cases brought before state and federal courts, as needed.
- Communicates with outside counsel on legal matters
- Assists in training employees on various topics, including ethics and open government laws.
- Assists in drafting advisory opinions regarding the applicability of ethics laws pursuant to Part III, Chapter 112, Florida Statutes.
- Performs other duties as required.
