Position Summary: As the Chief Procurement Officer, you will be responsible for leading the entire procurement function, developing and executing strategies that significantly enhance our supply chain's efficiency and effectiveness. Your role is vital to supporting the company’s growth initiatives while nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and driving operational excellence across the organization. You will leverage your extensive expertise to build a robust procurement team that aligns seamlessly with our organizational goals. This position will require up to 35% travel, with the possibility of increased travel as the company embarks on its next phase of expansion.
Key Responsibilities: In this role, you will be responsible for developing a comprehensive procurement strategy that not only meets the company’s growth objectives but also addresses its operational needs. You will work hand-in-hand with the CFO, CEO, and founder, ensuring that our procurement strategies are closely aligned with our overarching business goals and financial targets.
You will lead initiatives to expand our procurement function across the East Coast and into European markets, carefully navigating local regulations and market conditions to ensure success. Your expertise in global procurement will be invaluable in establishing and optimizing supply chain processes as we enter new regions.
As a leader, you will be tasked with building and mentoring a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will develop training programs and resources that enhance the team’s capabilities and deepen their understanding of industry best practices.
Cultivating strong relationships with key suppliers and strategic partners will be essential. You will negotiate contracts that drive value and foster innovation, while implementing performance metrics to ensure compliance, quality, and service levels. Your oversight of procurement operations will ensure effective management of sourcing, contracting, and supplier negotiations, and you will be instrumental in driving process improvements and technology adoption to enhance procurement efficiency.
Staying informed about industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes will be crucial, as you ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, promoting ethical sourcing practices throughout our operations. You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders—including finance, operations, and R&D—to ensure our procurement strategies are aligned with broader business objectives, regularly communicating performance and strategic insights to senior leadership and the board.
Your role will also involve leveraging data analytics and procurement management tools to inform decision-making and enhance supply chain performance. You will establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on the effectiveness and impact of procurement initiatives.
Travel Requirements: You should be prepared for up to 35% travel for supplier meetings, industry events, and team development, with the potential for increased travel as we expand into new markets.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or relevant certification preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in procurement, with a strong background in the pharmaceutical industry and a proven track record of global expansion.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to navigate complex procurement challenges and drive results.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills, with a history of building and maintaining successful supplier relationships.
- Experience leading large teams and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Proficiency in procurement software and data analytics tools; familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 35% for business needs, with flexibility for increased travel during expansion phases.
