We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Archivist for a long-term contract supporting a major time-based media (TBM) digitization initiative within an institutional archives setting. This position is ideal for someone skilled in handling TBM assets and managing digital inventory processes to ensure accurate cataloging and preservation of media files.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management: Conduct item-level inventory of TBM assets to create a comprehensive record.
- Digitization Selection: Assess and recommend TBM materials for digitization when multiple versions or copies are available.
- Packing & Logistics: Label, pack, and manage shipments to a digitization vendor, tracking the process to ensure safe handling.
- Quality Assurance: Upon return from the vendor, conduct quality control on digital files according to established procedures and return them to archives storage.
- ArchivesSpace Documentation: Create and maintain detailed description records in ArchivesSpace, including collection-level Resource Records.
- Archival Object Creation: Based on metadata from both inventory and digitized files, generate item-level Archival Objects and Digital Objects in ArchivesSpace.
- Legacy File Resolution: Work with existing digital files and descriptions, updating them to meet current archival standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to lift and transport boxes weighing up to 30 pounds, including navigating stairs.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and solution-focused, capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, and database functions).
- Understanding of archival principles and practices.
- Knowledge of audiovisual formats or production methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ArchiveSpace or similar archival management systems.
- Familiarity with digitization and media reformatting workflows.
