Quest Diagnostics seeks a Senior Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to work as part of its award-winning in-house legal team. This Senior IP Counsel will be a patent prosecution specialist that also has experience supporting new product launches and transactions with respect to IP diligence and freedom to operate analyses. The mix of duties may change from time to time and vary based upon the Company’s needs.
Primary responsibilities would include providing strategic IP advice, independently managing parts of the Company’s patent prosecution portfolio (including the tandem mass spectrometry patent portfolio), representing the Company in front of the U.S. Patent Office on prosecution matters, providing counsel and strategic advice on IPR matters, providing technical and IP support on IP litigation matters and providing patent clearance searches on new diagnostic assay and product launches. Preferably, the successful candidate would also provide support on the IP aspects of collaborations, patent licensing and strategic alliances. The candidate should also have outstanding written and oral communication skills and be able to explain complex IP and technical issues to management,
The Senior IP Counsel will report to the Vice President of Intellectual Property and will be based at a mutually agreeable location.
Competitive candidates will have a J.D, be duly licensed to practice law, be a registered Patent Attorney, have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar discipline and have 5+ years of relevant experience, part of which at a top firm. Top-tier credentials are required for consideration.

- Some transactional experience with licensing, collaborations and IP clauses in M&A transactions

- Healthcare or medical diagnostic experience a plus
- Familiarity with or exposure to fraud and abuse and privacy laws helpful
- Strong patent prosecution skills and experience
- Demonstrated ability to interface and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management
