We are looking for a talented Electrified Powertrain Test Engineer to join our team. This role is essential for the development and execution of advanced testing for electrified powertrain systems, utilizing dynamometers and collaborating closely with product engineers and mechanics to ensure our solutions meet the highest standards of performance and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with mechanics and product engineers to develop test procedures for electric drive line testing on dynamometers.
- Conduct FWD and AWD electric transmission testing, including BEV, P1P2, P2P3, and P1P4 testing.
- Oversee test schedule development, monitor testing, troubleshoot issues, process test data, and ensure test cells and equipment meet customer requirements.
- Utilize root cause diagnostics and corrective action skills to achieve accurate test results.
- Work closely with product engineers within the Transmission Development Lab to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Set up electric motor dynamometer, supervising the installation of motor hardware, power electronics, and high-speed data acquisition equipment.
- Test and debug electric motor systems for continuous and peak power specifications in both high-voltage and low-voltage applications.
- Perform steady-state and dynamic tests, including motoring and regeneration operations, to ensure torque accuracy and reliability of electric motors.
- Post-process and analyze test data to confirm calibration functional objectives; resolve hardware, calibration, and instrumentation issues as needed.
- Lead and execute technical projects in a high-voltage dynamometer testing environment.
- Support root cause analysis for dynamometers; troubleshoot issues with CAN monitoring, INCA modules, and equipment systems; resolve NVH issues for electric motors and power inverters.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of powertrain system dynamics, including both conventional and electrified power systems.
- Champion safe work practices for handling high-voltage systems; implement safety protocols and software logic for high-voltage operations.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
- Understanding of engine and/or transmission operation, powertrain functions and electrification power flow.
- Minimum of 3 year experience in Test Automation System, and dynamometer test schedule development for various vehicle powertrain configurations.
- Strong knowledge of test system controls.
- Must have strong understanding in electric vehicle drive components, energy storage system (E-motors, inverters, Battery, Charger) and interactions between various sub-systems.
- Self-starter with the inherent ability to follow through.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills & ability to work with multiple customer groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Formal problem solving training.
- Experience as Powertrain Dynamometer Durability Testing.
- Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data using DC Plot and MDA.
- Knowledgeable in common tools (TDCI, INCA, I-Box, DC Plot, MatLab, CDA, CAN Communication)
