Director, Corporate Partnerships & Philanthropy

Position overview:
Charitable 501(c)(3) Foundation seeks a director, corporate partnership & philanthropy. Reporting to the executive director, and as a senior member of the Foundation staff, help build and execute strategy to ensure the organization's longevity. Design and implement forward-leaning strategies to steward new donors and continue to sustain and grow the organization’s budget through innovative channels including corporate partnerships, individual giving, events, and grant support.
What you'll do
- Steward current partners to understand their philanthropic goals and history with and cultivate longer-term relationships that grow.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, strategic, short- and long-term funding plan.
- Research, cultivate relationships, develop, and execute cause marketing projects that raise the profile of the Foundation’s signature program, and raise funds to support Foundation activities.
- Handle targeted outreach strategies and work with staff to research, write, and generate grant proposals and supporting documents.
- Oversee grant funding accordingly and submit follow up reports.
- Work with executive director and staff to market the Foundation’s signature program to diverse funders.
- Coordinate with and support the Foundation’s communications staff and external consultants to develop outreach tools (e.g., collateral and presentation materials) and marketing efforts related to funding initiatives and events.
- Direct and conduct vigorous donor research and prospecting efforts to find and encourage new funding sources and reach fundraising goals.
- Identify and secure sponsorship and underwriting opportunities.
- Lead and develop sponsor proposals including presentations, narratives, budgets, and reports.
- Develop and execute fundraising communications including event and grant proposals, solicitations, donor agreements, grant and funder reports, acknowledgements, and other communications.
- Monitor and prepare quarterly status reports (and other reports) on fundraising activities for the executive director.
- Participate in the development of annual strategic plan and budgets and ongoing income projections.
- Collaborate with outside event and PR consultants that support programs and events.
- Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with regulations and laws, and the code of ethics for 501-c3 charities and fundraising professionals.
- Oversee the data management of donors and prospects in Salesforce.
- Manage other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
What you'll need to succeed (requirements)
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' experience in nonprofit development work including 3 years in leadership - relevant corporate sales, management, and marketing experience considered.
- Innovative, results-oriented leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to influence with a deep belief in the mission.
- Authentic storytelling skills, a sense of humor, and natural ability to build relationships that inspire deep engagement among donors to enhance the program’s financial stability, visibility, impact, and long-term sustainability.
- Proven ability to set and articulate a fundraising strategy, build and execute a development plan, and utilize a metrics-driven approach to succeed and evaluate outcomes.
- Collaborative and team-oriented work style with self-motivation and a bias for strategic action to get the job done.
- Exceptional and persuasive writing and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with staff, industry leaders, and senior-level executives.
- Sound judgment with a high level of integrity, trust, and accountability and the right blend of executive presence, poise, and diplomacy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency in Salesforce strongly preferred.
- Knowledge Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube related to fundraising marketing a plus.
- Flexibility for occasional overnight travel and the ability to work from the DC office several times a month.
