QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated proficiency using the Microsoft Office group of programs, and ability to access databases
- High level of personal organizational and administrative ability, with a demonstrated ability for detail-oriented work
- Above average communication skills (both oral and written)
- General knowledge of legal terms and documents
- Demonstrated proficiency performing simple legal research
- Paralegal duties - paralegal degree preferred.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General legal duties: (I) assist with legal research; (2) review or prepare, with assistance from counsel, loan commitments, title documents, liens, and other real estate documents as needed to support the real estate and commercial loan departments; (3) deal with garnishments, tax levies and bankruptcies, process consumer complaints, assist with reviewing powers of attorney/guardianships, and conduct legal research; and (4) communicate with outside counsel to coordinate document and scheduling issues.
- Regulatory duties: gather information for responses to state insurance departments, work with regulators independently as directed, help coordinate documents and information for state market conduct examinations and the market conduct annual report and other federal and state inspections, and prepare insurance fraud reports; or review and file or release real estate documents, liens, title documents, etc. as necessary to support real estate and commercial loan portfolios.
- Litigation duties: gather information to respond to discovery and subpoenas, investigate matters involved in lawsuits, and maintain organized litigation files.
- Corporate governance duties: maintain minute books, prepare agenda for corporate meetings, prepare and distribute materials in advance of corporate meetings, draft standard portions of minutes, and research corporate records. Provide support to the stock transfer agent as needed.
- Administrative duties: file, sort mail, transcribe correspondence, schedule meetings, arrange travel, maintain and update law library, pay invoices, assist benefit plan administrative committee and trustees with needed support, and administer Attorneys' memberships in professional associations.
