Position Overview:
The Senior Estimator is an essential member of the team, responsible for creating detailed cost estimates for large-scale heavy civil projects such as roads, bridges and highways. This role is critical for ensuring bid accuracy and competitiveness, supporting the company’s success in securing significant contracts and delivering high-quality projects.
Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation & Strategy: Lead the development of comprehensive estimates, collaborating on bid strategies that align with company objectives. Ensure all cost components are meticulously considered to produce competitive and accurate bids.
- Cost & Risk Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of project costs, including labour, equipment, and materials. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard project success.
- Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and terms. Integrate the best proposals into estimates to enhance overall bid quality and value.
- Market Knowledge: Maintain current awareness of market trends, material costs, and industry practices. Apply this knowledge to adjust estimates to reflect realistic market conditions.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure estimates meet project requirements. Produce comprehensive reports that support bid presentations and decision-making.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Experience: 8+ years direct industry experience
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Certifications: Certifications from relevant industry bodies
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
